Bob Holman presents
APOCALYPSE ETERNITY
by Bob Holman

Characters:
God
Child
Snake
Earth
Eternity

God: In the beginning I was thinking of something
         Which rapidly disintegrated

Boy: Hello

Snake: Pleasant evening (Yawns)

Earth: Happiness

Eternity: Which dances

(A wind, a train, the theater turns inside out, we are on a cold deserted hillside, wet and slick with rain. The grass smells so fresh it's decadent. Our characters are happy (or not) as they go on, which may be repetition (or not). They do not know they are characters even. We watch them as if it were a play, but, you know, it's not, probably, because the actors aren't aware they are actors. All we can do is watch them and enjoy the show and wonder how we got here. And is that so different from what we do, anyway, every day?)

Us (in revelation!): Apocalypse Eternity!

(and, need I add?)

The End

Bob Holman is the author of seven books of poetry and editor of two anthologies, including Aloud: Voices from the Nuyorican Poet’s Café, winner of the 1994 National Book Critics Circle Award. A compact disc featuring Holman’s performances of his songs and poems, In with the Out Crowd, was released in 1998. In 1996, he co-founded Mouth Almighty/Mercury Records, the only poetry CD label to ever gain distribution by a major label. Between 1986-94 he produced more than 50 Poetry Spots@ for WNYC-TV, a period during which the series won three Emmys. Since 1991 he has worked with Josh Blum, the president and executive Producer of Washington Square Films and Arts, to produce the breakthrough PBS poetry video programs, Words in Your Face and The United States of Poetry. In 1998, he was appointed Visiting Professor in Writing at Bard College, where he teaches "Exploding Text: Poetry in Performance."
