ZZZZZORRO POEM
by
Susanna Speier
Born in California with a silver spoon in his mouth
Zorro, Zorro, Zorro, Zorro, Zorro
took to riding a horse at night and marking the world with
Z's.
Zorro was an aristocratic overachiever
with a secret identity alter ego
who managed to become a successful legendary celebrity
and like many other legendary celebrities with secret identity alter
egos
such as:
Batman
The Lone Ranger
Captain America
Zorro chose to wear a mask.
Born in California with a silver spoon in his mouth
Zorro, Zorro, Zorro, Zorro, Zorro
had everything
except for one thing.
He didn't know how to spell his name.
Actually it began with an "S"
And because the California education system never actually
managed to catch on;
or if they did manage to catch on,
they obviously didn't bother to do anything about it,
to this day,
Zorro continues to write Z's everywhere,
without seeming to notice that
Sorro is what's written on his
birth certificate
Sorro is what's written on his
drivers license
Sorro is what's written on his
social security card
Sorro is what's written on his
American Express card
Sorro is what's written on his
Frequent Flier Mileage Card
Born in California with a silver spoon in his mouth
Zorro, Zorro, Zorro, Zorro, Zorro
would cruise past mach five soundwaves
into silent California darkness freeway night
while stopping only for super-unleaded gasoline
and nachos and No-Doz washed down with Gatorade
at the economic engine convenience store.
Zorro would cruise past mach five soundwaves
into silent California darkness freeway night
while wondering what it would be like to go
surfing, water skiing or boogie boarding as the tide came in.
Zorro would cruise past mach five soundwaves
into silent California darkness freeway night
while wondering what it would be like to be a dee jay;
to sample and remix the bytes of his own themesong
and maybe even add video clips from his old black n white TV
shows and-and-and he could even colorize those video clips,
maybe, maybe, yeah. He was sure that he could. He knew he
could.
Zorro would cruise past mack five soundwaves
into silent California darkness freeway night
while wondering what it would be like
to do XTC with dotcom ravers
at Burning Man
using light sticks to streak the sky with zzZs
as the desert wind blew and blew and blew.
Born in California with a silver spoon in his mouth
Zorro, Zorro, Zorro, Zorro, Zorro
would cruise past mach five soundwaves
into silent California darkness freeway night
while contemplating
what it meant
to be a successful
legendary
celebrity
named
Zorro:
an aristocratic overachiever with a secret identity alter ego
who
like many other successful legendary celebrities such as:
Batman
The Lone Ranger
Captain America
chose to wear a mask.
