East Bank Poetry

Sijo, Tanka, Ghazal, Cinquain

Sijo

on winds from across the sea
a fragrant serendipity
the sound of each green thing growing
in union with life flowing
now opened to a still sky
buds of lilacs raised on high

Tanka

rain water
dying to rivers
the rivers, the sea
in this loss we are found
in this surrender set free

deep in the sky
light of a full, clear moon
petal-scented breeze
in this night of soft, spring air
whispering heart, between beat

Ghazal

drawn, as the moon draws water, into your eyes
we find the deep middle of ourselves

drawn--the bucket into the well--
I am thirsty for your taste

drawn to where your touch is my touch
we journey to the other side

drawn, the lines between converging
here is the arc of our covenant

drawn down into deep dream
hush-wings of birds in flight

Cinquain

summer
solstice nearer
silence of shadows grow
stronger than a sound can carry
so far
