PIE
matthew rohrer

throwing shit we don’t need away
vacuuming up cat hair
that’s what I did today
I imagined it was morning
all day, beautiful weather
that didn’t follow me inside
stillness in afternoon
rooms, a Hammond organ
shadows of leaves
on white curtains
in the past, lost
in the beautiful crashing surf
an imperfect gift
I feel it if I think
about Li Po
drinking wine until
the pleasant sinking
of the ego into the night
and then he drank a lot
more and became sozzled
and drowned off
a little boat.
“Called back”
And he never tasted pie.
