She lived across the hall. She liked ranch. She liked to mouth it off my person. She told me to move in but I felt afraid. She quit mouthing me. I would wave toward her in the foyer.

I drove to stay with Dad in his hospital. When I returned she had moved.

Our friend told me if and what he had heard of her, but then our friend crashed his car. She wrote to say she'd gone to our friend's funeral but missed me there. Hadn't I loved him?

4.
She came to my workplace ostensibly to ask after my dad. She wore lipstick and a coat that hid her. She stared at my left hand but I slid it in my pocket. We pretended to be different people.
