I saw directly through the ghost;
Behind it was a second ghost hovering
Transparently as the first. All three
Of us together in that dark hallway.
And no one with any word to say
About the next life, or this.

I tried on a great blazer in the department
Store, but it kept slipping from my
Transparent frame. I was cold. Mom,
Look, that ghost is naked. I can tell
You that the afterlife is full of shame.
The living gawk, they haunt me daily.

We will now record the sounds of
A séance. Quiet please. I said quiet,
Please. With all of you ghosts
Chatting and clanking your chains about,
We can’t hear a thing. Stop wailing.
Will you please put on some clothes.
