Austin International Poetry Festival takes place in April 2000 in Austin, Texas. Your editor attended last year and had a wonderful time! Readings, parties, Slam events, more poetry than you can imagine! Check it out at their webpage
Writer's Tools

  1. The Soul Unmade is an interesting webzine, currently accepting submissions in all areas. Poetry in the current issue includes Ruth Daigon, Ric Masten and other known net poets. Go to the guidelines page for more info.

  2. Anamnesis Press is sponsoring its 5th annual poetry chapbook award competition.. They're looking for poetry with intellectual and emotional depth that avoids cliches and has an ear for sound and music, although formal structure is not necessary. Genre poetry (science fiction/fantasy/horror) is fine, but we're looking for a high level of sophistication and imagination. Check the guidelines for more info.
    The winner will receive $1000, an award certificate suitable for framing, and 20 copies of the winning chapbook.
    Jerry H.Jenkins, featured in this issue's West Bank poetry section, was last year's winner.

  3. ByLine Magazine: has issued a Call for Submissions for their ByLine chapbook competition. It is a yearly chapbook contest and offers a $200 cash award plus 50 copies of the published book.
    Last year's winner was Kenneth Chamblee.
    ByLine sponsors many contests throughout the year, check themes and deadlines at their website.

Reader's Digest welcomes on-line contributions to the following departments via U.S. Mail and E-mail:$400 for true, unpublished stories used in Life in These United States, Humor in Uniform (experiences in the armed services), Campus Comedy (life at college), Tales Out of School (high school anecdotes), All in a Day's Work (humor on the job) and Virtual Hilarity (computer-related stories). Maximum length: 300 words.
