Three Years Later, O Jewel:
A Critical Reexamination and
Revisitation of A Night withour Armor

Editor's note: Jewel Kilcher's book A Night Without Armor was released in June 1998, and so this month marks its third anniversary. In honor of this LPZ friend Ethan Paquin sends in Amazon.com reviews of Jewel Kilcher's book, interpolated and unchanged; these were ostensibly genuinely favorable, and not sarcastic, "Five-Star" reviews.

I .

Jewel, don't let the naysayers get you down. Jewel, a "jack-of-all-trades" has captured the essence of a time most of us has gotten to old to remember. she is trully a wonderful unique individual. She is a true angle. "Jewel Kilcher" is the most unique person someone could possibly be. If I could say one thing to Jewel today, it would be that I would love to some day meet her and if I did, my heart would be touched forever. WAY TO GO JEWEL!

I think some people are to soon to write her off as just another pop singer in the music buisness. Some of you people really vex me. Poetry in not just words. It takes patience, ditermination, hard work, love of poetry, and most of all talent. And lots of it! it's well worth the time reading it and figuring out her poetry :)

if love has never giving u an answer, it also deserves two thumbs up, ten toes, one knee, and an elbow. I absolutely idalize Jewel. I loved her poetry and reading the book has given me higher expectations for myself as I mature as a writer.

That she is now published as a "poet" has certainly inflamed the passions of the intellectually arrogant, and the insecure. There are those who seem jealous that she is both very attractive, and that she brought herself from poverty to success. Jewel is like your best friend. The one who honestly tells you what she thinks of this shirt with those pants or how you look with purple hair, or why this guy is wrong for you, etc. Yes, granted, there are great poets and artists who languish and toil without recognition. But they chose that life, and if some of them had more business sense, they would be more successful and known.

II.

I can totally relate with Jewel on SO many topics. Teachers should totally let us read this book instead of Shakespeare or like, Robert Frost (they are sooo boring!). I couldn't help but laugh and think...'yes Jewel, I know what you mean'. I read Shakespeare and Poe, but neither of them move me or touch me like Jewel does.

The book is the fuel now release the flame!!!!!READ THIS BOOK PEOPLE!!!!

I write poetry in my free time, and it doesn't even compare. Her first book was amazingly deep. I believe the most important thing is that you say what your feel not whether your poetry rhymes or contains allusions to breasts are whatever. It has especially helped me to start writing poetry. they are not your soul fires, they are jewel's. I seriously encourage you to buy this book. Not a cent shall go to waste. You get the benefit.

III.

The poems have hidden meanings and that is what makes this collection great. For example:

"We are loved beyond our ability to comprehend"

To me this means that God loves us so much and not the puppy love that teenagers go through but real unconditional love that will never end (God won't "divorce us" because we do wrong he always loves us whether we are good or bad).

This also means to me that when you find that special someone they would give their life for you and that is hard to understand.

This example is perfect because it has two meanings earthly love and heavenly love.

This is why it takes a complex thinker to comprehend her poems.

IV.

It shows that she is not some flunky like Brittney Spears. Damn! This girls got talent. I'm telling you. BECAUSE OF HER I FIND THE AMBITION TO FIND MY DREAMS.

This book by Jewel is the best book of poetry ever written. I think that this book is the best poetry book ANYone could ever read! I suggest you buy the audio version which makes all her poems come to life. I am in love with jewel, for her work touches me more than anything I've ever read, with exception to the Bible. Plus, amazon gives you the best price- i bought my copy for 19.00!
