LUCKY #13

Welcome to La Petite Zine, lucky #13. (Like the Pixies song; you know where the tattoo goes.) This is our first issue since the editor of issues #4-12, the illustrious Daniel Nester, left to pursue other projects (see LAGNIAPPE). And since January, Jeff and I have been in editorial boot camp. Were there a documentary of the making of this issue, you'd see us compiling lists on the backs of envelopes, fumbling with attachments, leaving lengthy and incomprehensible messages on each other's voicemail, and generally hunched in front of our respective Macs. Were there a mockumentary, and maybe there should be, you'd see us debating over cocktails with the literati, spontaneously composing, jetting off with the band, and launching this issue from some romantic locale. In either version, co-Editing is weird business. Still, I believe Jeff and I have made a very pretty Frankenstein.

If you're new to La Petite Zine, the "only lit mag you could play air guitar to" (per our benefactor and guide, DN), thanks for checking us out. If you're already an avid reader of LPZ, I hope you'll recognize the same mixture of irreverence, innovation, and fine, fine work. I also hope you'll discover some new quirks and treasures. We plan to continue introducing new voices to the literary milieu, while concurrently featuring better-known contemporaries. Does that sound dull or pragmatic? Let's say then, we're publishing whatever we damn well please, and you'll like it. No kidding. You will.

Enjoy the new issue (there's plenty here!) and visit your old favorites. If you'd like to be on our mailing list, please subscribe (see LAGNIAPPE- really, there's good stuff there). Keep an eye out for our all-female review (issue #15, if all goes). Oh. And, as always, feel free to rock out.
